Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate horror films: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its online premiere on the Hulu service. At first glance, it might appear like conventional body horror, but beneath Together exists a profound examination about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors infuse a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim discover an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence starts to affect the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, weaving in bits of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the idea of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu at present.
