The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots had in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting possible closure due to challenges stemming from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in improving infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is among several artists to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

When they earned the prize in 1996 for their album their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the band would contribute their cash to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award across a few organizations, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they needed better apparatus," the artist explained to outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, in addition to other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had saved two local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in the city were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
