The Black Phone Horror
The director's locked-room horror stands strong despite the lack of a follow-up. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, multiple child abductions has rendered the children frightened. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a cellar, he fears the worst. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. The actor portrays the corrupt Bakker, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple begin monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, yet the lead actress achieves to show Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, late night, Film4
